Your Commute Just Got Easier: A Big Win for PATCO Riders into Philly

Alarm clocks rejoice—there’s real movement on regional transit. SEPTA is restoring services after weeks of cuts, using $394M in state-approved capital funds so buses, subways, and trolleys can run fuller again. A judge ordered service restoration; the plan is approved and rolling forward. There will be a fare hike, but the near-term headline is: more frequency and fewer missed connections for South Jersey commuters riding PATCO from Voorhees/Haddonfield into Center City

What changed (and when)

What changed (and when)

Service Restoration: PennDOT approved SEPTA’s use of $394M in capital funds to restore operations (reversing recent cuts). SEPTA is implementing the court order to bring service back.

Fare Increase: A 21.5% fare hike (base fare $2.90) begins Sept 14 as part of the stabilization plan.

Why you care on the PATCO side: more reliable SEPTA connections at 8th & Market/Jefferson, less “bus just left” frustration, and smoother transfers to MFL, BSL, trolleys, and buses when you come in via Haddonfield, Westmont, Collingswood, Woodcrest, Ashland, or Lindenwold. PATCO runs 24/7 with 12,500+ NJ parking spaces at key stations.

Fare Change – Base fare moves to $2.90 on Sept 14; plan your Key re-loads accordingly. Timeline: local broadcast update.

PATCO x SEPTA Transfers – If you ride from Haddonfield/Voorhees, expect better handoffs downtown as SEPTA frequencies normalize.

If this smooths your morning, which station do you start from—and what’s your transfer? (Haddonfield → MFL? Woodcrest → BSL? Lindenwold → Bus?)

I’ll keep tabs on schedules and any tweaks so your commute stays simple. Save the links, set your alerts, and enjoy a little more predictability in your day.
